Family

Wow, I haven’t posted very frequently lately. I really have no excuse, just haven’t thought much about it. In case you were wondering, the boys are doing great. G is so smart and really B is too (I can tell already :). G is beginning to learn his letters and numbers already!

Of course we went duck hunting a few weeks ago (one day only) but didn’t see much. But it was a beautiful day and fun to get outside for a few hours.

I have successfully removed the batteries from most of the boys toys (Read my rant from 9/8 to find out why) and I think it’s a success. G is being more creative at play time and B is no less interested in his toys. Yeah!

Opuses

I watched 2 movies recently….

– The Rookie: A very well done baseball movie that I enjoyed thoroughly and would be happy to watch with my young son.

– The Count of Monte Cristo: Most of the story was fine and followed the themes and spirit of the book just fine (Dantes’ revenge was the main point). But the movie ends completely opposite the book. Dantes learns forgiveness in the movie and thus gets Mercedes back, but if you’ve read the book you know he doesn’t learn to forgive so he can’t have Mercedes. The movie brings God into the equation a lot more than the book and this makes the forgiveness more credible but I like the way the book gets the point across better. The scenery was great and the action scenes had some great shots which made it enjoyable but the ending had a high cheese factor. Everybody that I’ve talked to who’s read the book didn’t like the movie and everyone I’ve talked to who hasn’t read the book like the movie. So there you have it.

So yesterday I tried McDonalds…

Observations

So yesterday I tried McDonalds “grown-up” burger, the big n’ tasty. Given that McDonalds food is pretty cheap and this burger was on special for $1, I’m okay with this burger. The beef was fairly dry but the veggies weren’t bad. The pickles were somewhat bland. Probably worth the price I paid.

Also, last night I checked out a game I haven’t played in a few years, gearheads. It’s a great game, very playable since it can be played in 2 player mode. It’s like a game of chess with wind up toys. You should try it out some time

Fun

Today’s feature….Great moments in British history:

1. “The best argument against Democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter” – Winston Churchill

2. “Consensus is the absence of leadership” – Margaret Thatcher

I tried out the Six Dollar Burger (about $4.00) from Hardees today and I must say that it is worth the $4.00 and possibly the best fast food burger I’ve had. The beef was big and tasty, cooked just right. The bread and butter pickles were nice and thick, a good addition. And the vegetables were fresh and crisp, stacked under the meat so the temperature differential would last longer. Nice job Hardly’s!

We went to watch the…

Adventures

We went to watch the Brewers on Friday night with some good friends and had a great time. It was win-win night. If the Brewers won, we got free admission to any other game this season. But they lost in 12 innings. Bummer.

B is getting so big. He can hold his own bottle a bit. G and B and I all have had runny noses for the last 6 weeks. Big time allergy season this year.

G is getting big too. Last night I took him to watch the football game in the bike trailer and as we rode through the grass at the stadium he said, “Watch out for the dog poop daddy!”.

I also figured out something about kids toys these days. You know the electronic ones that make all the noises? Well, we were shopping and G said, “What does this one do?” And it occurred to me that all these new toys do the playing for the child. No creativity or even activity required. Just push this button. So I’m going to try to stick with the toys that aren’t so electronic. Maybe a set of tinkertoys next. Hmmmm….. 🙂
