We spent the weekend at a B+B in Door County. Our room didn’t have a TV or a phone so we concentrated on relaxing and reading, etc. We also went to the drive-in theater on saturday and saw Men in Black II and Mr. Deeds. 1 Sentence Reviews:
– Men in Black II: MIB with less slime, a bunch more gags and a slightly better plot.
– Mr. Deeds: Take the standard Adam Sandler plot – including the Rob Schnieder cameo – make it less “funny” and add a few plot holes.
Softball: Lost again last night….by one run….again….well, at least we had fun this time.
B has slept all night 2 nights in a row. C and I usually alternate nights getting up to feed him but it seems like he only sleeps through when it’s my night so now we’ve gone to the alternate nights when he actually wakes up instead of just alternate nights. So it’s my night again until he wakes up. I think he’ll stick to it now :-).
A funny thing happens when you shine the light of truth on a lie. It quickly appears quite silly. 2 days ago, I was feeling quite depressed. The feelings precipitated from a conversation I had that didn’t go well at all, and a small sleep deficit during the last week. As the day went on, I felt more and more like I was failing in many areas of my life. C knows me pretty well, so when I got home from work she knew something was wrong. We talked about it and she injected her vintage frankness, and it made perfect sense. And everything I had been mulling over all day seemed quite insignificant, and the fog lifted!
We had our first softball practice on saturday. That was pretty fun, except I realised how idle I’ve been all winter. I’m pretty sore, and I didn’t even do anything. Yikes.
Interesting thing. We saw a fox last night, running through the city. We tried to chase it but it was really booking.
C, G, and I took a ride in an airplane last night. It was a helio-courier which is used for by Jungle Aviation And Radio Service (JAARS) for transporting missionaries around jungles and remote areas. Great fun! G enjoyed it a lot and we got plenty of pictures. The pilot’s name was David and he has been in South America for 20 years and will be in the States starting this year. We’ll post some pics when the time comes…
I had to go to the JDEdwards Packerland Local User’s Group golf outing for work yesterday. We demoed some software we’ve written and then golfed. Lot’s of fun. Our team had the lowest score so we all got a $25 gift certificate. Way cool! I ended up with 2 shirts on the day. 🙂 We played at Tuscumbia Country Club which is a very old, very nice course in Green Lake. No water but lots of trees. The best day at work I’ve had all year.
WOW! Trees down everywhere, sewers backing up. Pretty impressive for Oshburg. 70mph sustained winds, gusts up to 90mph. We stayed up and watched the storm. The power went out at 9:30pm. We stayed up till 12am watching the sump and everything seemed pretty stable so we went to bed. We woke up at 2am to check the sump and found the drains in the basement running in reverse. The first thing we did was take everything upstairs that was within 3 feet of the floor that had any value. We didn’t get the holes plugged until 4am and by that time there was over a foot of sewer backup in the basement. God provided a generator for us so we started pumping at about that same time and got all the water out by 8 or 9. Now it just needs to be dried and cleaned really well. The question will be whether to clean the carpet or replace it. A few things got wet but they should be okay when they dry out. Under the circumstances thing worked out pretty well.
All told, we got about 3.5 hours of sleep yesterday.
