A lot has happened in the last few days.
1. L got married:
2. We had K (Send an epistle for details.):
3. We have a new anomalism:
New words in “Bring it Back”.
B had his birthday party yesterday. He got from his grandma and grandpa a toy airplane with a piston engine that is powered by compressed air (“Air Hogs” brand). So we went outside and flew the plane. It is amazing how much power the tiny engine produces and surprising that nobody marketed this idea years ago. Of course the men wanted to know how the engine works and it’s a good thing it was made of clear plastic so you could observe the mechanics of the thing. The box says that the plane will fly up to 100′. However, it appears that they meant to say the plane flies up to 100′ after flying straight up 30′, looping the loop thrice, then slowing down enough to travel the 100′ in a straight line. It was an exciting time because one had no control over the toy. It landed upwind, downwind, in the road, on the roof of the house, and into the side of the house.
G and I were playing “chess”, at least his version of it which is more like checkers but with a few twists. I decided to show him the rules of real chess since he seems to grasp checkers already. I started with the board setup. 2 minutes after I showed him the setup, he reproduced it…on his own…correctly! Yes, I suppose I’m bragging.
Also, me: “So, what did you do today?”
G: “Just lazed around.”
Whence comes this wit?
G got a board game for Christmas, “SORRY!: Disney Edition”. It has the standard four SORRY! colours, but the teams are Disney characters. There are teams of villians, cuddly animals, princesses, and heroes. In the very first game he played his Grandma, Grandpa, and Great-Grandma. G picked the villians team and Half-way through the game he bumped one of his grandparents. He said, “Sorry!” then declared, “Wait! I’m not supposed to say that. Bad guys don’t say ‘Sorry!'”
Also, LH has requested actual development on the “Bring it Back” page. I shall comply.
What’s amazing about children (especially mine 🙂 is the joy they extract from our trivialities. C went for groceries last night of course the boys enjoyed helping put them away. B picked up a package of napkins and out he came with a big grin and “Oooh! Naa-kins! Oooh! Naa-kins!”
Went to the mall this weekend. It was nuts, there were 85 bazillion people there because it’s been such a warm fall and Saturday was cold. I reckon everone was catching up on his shopping.
We ate at the taste bud extravaganza that is Panda Express. They had a job posted: “Now Hiring: Ass. Manager”. At first I thought maybe they had donkeys trained to prepare the food and wanted somebody to control them, then I thought “Nah, that can’t be it.” Maybe they have a stable of donkeys out back that they’re getting ready to butcher to put into the chicken lo mein. Well, it’s the only tenable theory I have.
G had been really close to reading for some time but we hadn’t gotten him the very beginning level book he needed to get started so he kept saying, “I don’t know how to read!” Finally, we found a set that B had given us. I showed it to him and got him started. Well, I couldn’t stop him. Normally, he’s asleep by 8:30 but that night he lay in his bed and read until 10:30 pm. How wonderful is that?
We made snowmen last night:
On Monday, the family were fagged out so we took a one day holiday and lazed away Monday night and Tuesday morning. We swam at the Tundra Lodge in Green Bay and enjoyed a late luncheon at Curly’s Pub in the Lambeau Field atrium. The day was an uncrowded one, so it was a very satisfactory one.
I just love these guys!
